(In)Mobilization and post-border transferability
The case of unaccompanied migrant minors in Spain

This article focuses on the analysis of the post-border (im)mobilization of unaccompanied migrant minors in the Spanish peripheral border enclaves. Starting from the assumption that studies on migration control have suffered from a certain border bias, the article emphasizes the importance of examining the processes of (im)mobilization that take place within the territory as another piece of the puzzle of migration control. The analysis introduces the concept of transferability to describe actions of different scope and sequence that have been applied in these territories and show mechanisms of categorization and gradation that shape different asymmetries of mobility. After presenting a generic description of the evolution in the construction of this transferability and its translation into various forms of transfer or immobilization of certain categories of migrants, the article delves into the case of unaccompanied minors, the paradigm, to date, of the non-transferable migrant subject.
