Remote immediacy: Oxymoron or new reality?

This paper analyses the impact of remote criminal trials conducted via video call on the principle of immediacy, given that, even from a semantic point of view, there appears to be a tension between this principle and the mediation implied by video calls. The question of the justification for remote criminal trials, in this case in tension with the principle of immediacy, is a matter of utmost importance due to the continuity and growth of this modality in Argentina, beyond its genesis in the state of emergency of mandatory social isolation during the COVID-19 pandemic. The issue will be addressed from both a socio-technical and legal perspective.
