Are the rights of nature a magical solution to our ecological problems? In this essay, based mainly on the case study of Los Cedros, a high biodiverse cloud forest, I describe and analyze how the rights of nature can engage in a dialogue between Western sciences, diverse ontologies and local knowledge. First, I analyze the convergence of Western science, ancestral knowledge, and the rights of nature, referring to concrete examples. Then, I describe the role of scientists in the Los Cedros case. Subsequently, within the framework of this case, I analyze the relationships between precaution as an environmental principle and the knowledge and ethics of ecological stewardship of local communities. I conclude with some remarks on the intrinsic value of nature and relationships with human rights.
