Guilt, shame, and myths about intimate partner violence in lesbian couples in Catalonia

Resumen

De las 128 mujeres que participaron en esta investigación transversal no experimental, 83 informaron ser o haber sido víctimas, la mayoría de ellas eran españolas (83,1 %), con estudios superiores (66,3%) e indicaron haber sentido culpa y vergüenza (76,3%). También reconocieron la existencia de la violencia en las relaciones lésbicas (98,7%). Sólo una minoría de las mujeres consideraron que este tipo de violencia era menos grave que la que se produce en las relaciones de parejas heterosexuales (15%). Las participantes más jóvenes tendieron a reportar con mayor frecuencia sentimientos de vergüenza y a asociar la violencia con factores desencadenantes, mientras que las mujeres con estudios superiores tienden a mostrar una mayor conciencia sobre la culpa y la gravedad de la violencia y a atribuir menos peso a factores externos como el consumo de sustancias. Los resultados contribuyen a mejorar los recursos de apoyo para estas mujeres. Este estudio encuentra limitaciones y señala recomendaciones para futuras investigaciones.

Mónica Laliga Mollá, Universidad de Vic-Universidad Central de Cataluña

Mónica Laliga-Mollá holds a degree in Law from the University Jaume I, Castellón, Master’s degree in Gender and Equality Policies from the University of Valencia, and a Master's degree in Legal Feminisms, Autonomous University of Barcelona, Spain. She is a PhD candidate in Gender Studies: Cultures, Societies and Policies at the University of Vic–Central University of Catalonia, Spain. Her main lines of research are Gender Studies, especially intimate partner violence and gender diversity, from a socio-legal and victimological perspective. E-mail: monica.laliga@uvic.cat

Conchi San Martín-Martínez, Universidad de Vic-Universidad Central de Cataluña

Conchi San Martín-Martínez holds a PhD in Psychology from the University of Barcelona. She is a lecturer at the University of Vic-Central University of Catalonia. She is a member of the research group “Estudis de gènere: traducció, literature, història i comunicació”. Her research interests are psychological effects of violence, and support for survivors. Gerard Coll-Planas holds a PhD in sociology from the Autonomous University of Barcelona and full professor at the University of Vic. He has published the books Illustrating Gender (Egales, 2013), La carne y la metáfora (Egales, 2012) and La voluntad y el deseo (Egales, 2010). He was the academic coordinator of the project 'Connected Equalities. Interseccionality in local public policies', and co-PI of ‘Polyhedral perspectives on gender violence: proposals for prevention in secondary schools from an intersectional perspective'. He is currently coordinating the project 'Zoom out. Approaching children's literature from an intersectional perspective' and participates in 'InterHEd: Intersectionality in Higher Education', both co-funded by the European Commission. Jesús Manuel Martínez González holds a PhD in Research in Humanities, Arts and Education from the University of Castilla-La Mancha and a Master’s in Applied and Advanced Artificial Intelligence from the University of Valencia. He is a lecturer at the Department of Law, Business and Government at Francisco de Vitoria University (Madrid, Spain).
