This paper focuses on the articulation between knowledge(s), practices and devices emerging from the Spanish policy framework against racial or ethnic discrimination. Based on the fieldwork done in Madrid and other Spanish localisations during 2019, I delve into the problematisations of racism fostered by situated actors (both institutional and “non-governmental”) that participate in this space, focusing on how such problematisations affect the legal notions being adopted and the “daily” legal struggle against discrimination. By addressing three specific situations, I point to the following results: a) a prevailing individualist and abstract notion of equality/discrimination, which ends up underestimating the collective dimension of racism and is traversed by “institutional whiteness”; b) the denial/downplaying of institutional/structural/governmental racism; c) the blurring of anti-racism within a legalist approach, not able to deal with the social, political, and historical dimensions of racial discrimination.

Available from: https://doi.org/10.35295/osls.iisl/0000-0000-0000-1183
}, number={3}, journal={Oñati Socio-Legal Series}, author={Sebastiani, Luca}, year={2021}, month={Jun.}, pages={753–786} }
